Reframed Realities UK/Ukraine: Creative Collaboration Through the UK–Ukraine Twinning Initiative

A successful collaboration between the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (NAFAA), Ukraine, and the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London (UAL) is demonstrating how creative partnerships can strengthen academic collaboration and provide powerful new ways of sharing Ukrainian experiences with international audiences.

Developed through the UK–Ukraine Twinning Initiative, the joint project "Reframed Realities UK/Ukraine" brought together students and academic staff from both institutions to explore the realities of life during wartime through contemporary art and visual storytelling.

Working collaboratively, students created a diverse collection of artistic responses, including art magazines, graphic prints, collages, photography, posters, bags, T-shirts, and other creative works. The project encouraged participants to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and reflect on themes of resilience, identity, memory, and everyday life in Ukraine.

Beyond the creative outcomes, Reframed Realities UK/Ukraine has strengthened the partnership between NAFAA and UAL by creating new opportunities for dialogue between students and academics and demonstrating how art can foster international understanding during challenging times.

The UK–Ukraine Twinning Initiative, coordinated by Cormack Consultancy Group, continues to create opportunities for universities to work together, demonstrating that partnerships extend beyond traditional academic collaboration to include culture, creativity, and shared human experiences.
