UK–Ukraine R&I Twinning Grants Scheme Supports Strategic Research Collaboration

Universities UK International (UUKi) has launched the UK–Ukraine Research and Innovation (R&I) Twinning Grants Scheme, providing funding until 31 August 2023 for eligible UK higher education institutions participating in the UK–Ukraine Twinning Initiative, coordinated by Cormack Consultancy Group.

Funded by Research England through the UK’s Official Development Assistance, the scheme offers strategic support to existing twinning partnerships, enabling them to transition from formal agreements into practical, collaborative research and innovation activity. The primary objective of the scheme is to promote the economic development and welfare of Ukraine, with wider benefits to the UK higher education sector.

The grants support the development of bespoke programmes of work that address shared research and innovation priorities, strengthen institutional capacity, and lay the foundations for long-term collaboration. Expected outcomes include enhanced resilience within Ukraine’s university-based research ecosystem, strengthened UK–Ukraine research partnerships, and improved capacity to respond to future crises through joint research and innovation initiatives.

The scheme is open to UK higher education institutions that are part of the UK–Ukraine Twinning Initiative and had completed their first facilitated twinning call with their Ukrainian partner by 16 January 2023.
